Voted the UK’s favourite city for nine years running, Edinburgh itself has everything you could want in an indulgent city break – a UNESCO world heritage site capped with an ancient castle, dozens of Michelin starred restaurants, and a thriving arts and theatre scene.

Sprawling Edinburgh Castle, perched on an inactive volcano, dominates the dreamy skyline, looking across to the peak of Arthur’s Seat. Lose yourself among the Old Town’s cobbled streets and medieval buildings, or promenade through the Georgian elegance of the New Town. If you fancy venturing a little further afield, white sandy beaches, East Lothian’s renowned golf courses and the wild Pentland Hills can all be found just a 30-minute train ride from the city.
